Crispa denied Toyota a chance to bid goodbye on a winning note after salvaging a split of their two-game exhibition series in Guam.

GUAM, March 6 (via Philcom) — Toyota’s bid for a glorious exit turned into a nightmare Monday night as Crispa, playing like it was the one saying goodbye, came through with a devastating fourth quarter to pull off a 108-92 victory over the Corollas here.

The Redmanizers, stung by the humiliating loss in the first game Sunday, spewed fire throughout this time and buried the fast-tiring Corollas with relentless fastbreaks before another sell-out crowd at the University of Guam gym.

GUAM, March 5 (via Philcom) — Toyota, trying to leave behind the legacy of a true champion, played with its old fire Sunday to humble Crispa, 109-101 in a game filled with the color of their past encounters before a highly-enthusiastic crowd here.

It was close all the way and the match was decided in the last four minutes — as in most of their past encounters — with the Corollas finishing strong and the Redmanizers turning ice-cold.

Abe King, sizzling from afar, fired a game-high 32 points. Arnulfo Tuadles had 23 and nine rebounds, six of them offensive, but it was Robert Jaworski, playing with a sense of mission, who personally assured the victory.

Crispa and Toyota arrived in Guam for a two-game exhibition series to cap off their storied rivalry. The series came almost a month after the stunning sale of the Toyota franchise to Beer Hausen.

GUAM, March 3 (via Philcom) — The series they have been calling here as a dream-come-true but actually is the curtain call of the storied Crispa-Toyota rivalry gets going tomorrow at the 4,000-seat University of Guam gym.

Crispa takes on the varsity selection, the stronger of two local sides the pros will be playing against, at 8 p.m. while Toyota meets the Guam All-Stars, a team powered by players from the University of Guam at 6:15 p.m.

Crispa took advantage of the absence of several key players of Toyota to win their second meeting in Cebu City. The victory was also the second straight for the Redmanizers against the Comets in the 1976 PBA First Conference.

CEBU CITY, June 6, - Crispa-Floro bucked a jittery start tonight and went on to rout an undermanned Toyota team, 121-97, and take the undisputed lead in the All-Filipino conference of the Philippine Basketball Association at the Aznar Coliseum here.

The Redmanizers trailed the Comets four times in the first quarter, the last at 29-31, as the seven Comets unleashed a gallant stand to the delight of some 5,000 spectators.

Crispa took the first quarter by only one point, 33-32, then settled down to business, dropping to a 10-2 bomb to pocket the second quarter by 10, 61-51. William Adornado fired six of his game-high 29 points in this flurry.

Crispa was never threatened after that as Baby Dalupan’s boys breezed to their 12th win against only one loss. The defeat was only the second for Toyota against 11 wins.

Thousands called them favorite ‘Whipping Boys! Almost everybody, including the fanatical followers, thought the Crispa-Floro Redmanizers had been buried too deep when they lost six straight matches to Toyota. But Sunday night in Cebu City, the Florians came alive, subjecting the Comets to a humihilating defeat that untangled a skein of defeats.

Also, the spell’s broken when the final buzzer sounded the end of their 48-minute hostility with the Redmanizers leaping with joy into each other’s arms and an ardent admirer jumping into the center of the court shouting, ‘They can’t beat us all the time. We did it. The jinx is shattered!’

Crispa ended a six-game losing streak against Toyota by winning their second-and-final out-of-town game held in Cebu City. The victory put the Redmanizers one game shy of making the 1975 PBA Second Conference finals.

CEBU CITY, Nov. 9 - Crispa finally broke a frustrating six-game losing streak against Toyota tonight when the Redmanizers rolled back the Comets, 108-102, to take a share of the lead in the Philippine Basketball Association semifinal round.

The victory tied Crispa with Noritake, which edged Royal Tru-Orange, 134-131, at the West Negros College gym in Bacolod City for its third win against two defeats.

The loss tied the Orangemen with the Comets for last place in the four-team semifinals, each with a 2-3 card.

The Redmanizers riddled the Comet defense three fourths of the way to lead by 24 points at one time but floundered precariously in the dying minutes before firming up their stand to finish with a spare.

Toyota extended its winning streak against Crispa to six games in their first of two out-of-town meetings. The Comets’ victory created a tie in the four-team semifinals with the Redmanizers, Noritake and Royal Tru-Orange.

ILOILO CITY, Nov. 7 - Toyota, its guns blazing in the first half, cooled off anew in the final half before pulling through with eight seconds left to beat arch-rival Crispa, 109-105, in a pulse-pounding match at the University of San Agustin gym her tonight.

At the Aznar Coliseum in Cebu City, Manuel Paner’s undergoal stab with five ticks left lifted Royal Tru-Orange to an 89-87 win over Noritake that put the four semifinalists dead even with two wins and two losses apiece.

Only two games are left for each team in this double round-robin series in which the top two teams meet for the Philippine Basketball Association second conference championship.
