Crispa, starring Glenn Hagan, finally beat arch-rival Toyota last night, 111-105, as the Redmanizers gained at least a tie for the second and last semifinals berth in the PBA Reinforced All-Filipino Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

Hagan, regaling a banner crowd with his game-long brilliance, scored a game-high 35 points, made a record eight steals, three of them off Francis Arnaiz and passed for 12 assists to rally the Redmanizers to their 11th win — their first over the Super Corollas in three matches this season.

Crispa coach Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan was all praise for the six-foot former NBA player, who turned back repeated Toyota rallies with his flawless shooting and ballhawking.

“Glenn played real well and that carried us through,” Dalupan said.

“We really needed this win not only to save face after losing two straight to Toyota but to get into the semifinals,” he added.

The loss was the eighth for Toyota in 17 matches and that left Gilbey’s Gin, an easy 125-99 winner over Great Taste in the first game, as the only team capable of forging a tie with the Redmanizers.

For this to happen, the Gins must win their two remaining games — against San Miguel and Mariwasa — and the Redmanizers lose to tailender Great Taste — a very remote possibility considering the fact that the Coffee Makers are now the favorite whipping boys in the league.

Hagan’s last basket — a jumpshot after Toyota’s Ramon Fernandez made it 107-103 — sealed Crispa’s victory.

Seconds earlier, the Super Corollas had razed a pair of 11-point Crispa leads to threaten at 104-101, 1:01 to go, behind Fernandez and Koonce.
