Bogs Adornado flashed his old form, leading Crispa to victory over Toyota in the first round of the 1978 PBA second conference. Imports Ansley Truitt and Paul Mills were also instrumental in the 400s victory.

Crispa, sparked by William Adornado and imports Ansley Truitt and Paul Mills, routed Toyota in the third quarter, 40-22, and went on to crush the Tamaraws, 129-108, last night at the Araneta Coliseum before some 25,000 fans who braved the stormy weather.
After trailing in the first two quarters, Baby Dalupan’s charges made fans forget about their loss to U-Tex last Thursday when they smashed the Tamaraws’ defense with impunity in the second half to win by a crushing margin.
Adornado, rounding back to his old form, and Mills engineered a crippling third-quarter blitz which razed a 53-49 Toyota halftime lead and started the defending champions to victory.
Displaying the form which made him the country’s top forward some years back, Adornado wielded a hot hand in that decisive third-quarter charge, firing eight points in a 17-8 flurry that gave the Redmanizers a commanding 83-70 lead from a precarious 66-62 edge.
Then Mills, coming in for Truitt, came up with two successive dunk shots off Toyota import Bruce “Sky” King as the Redmanizers went on to pad their lead to 18 points, 95-77.
So unstoppable was Adornado that even with the lanky Ramon Fernandez as his guard, the many-time national player converted 8 of 11 attempts from the field for his best game so far since he was sidelined with a knee injury two years ago. He finished with 17 points.
The victory, Crispa’s third in four games, moved the Redmanizers into a tie for first place with idle Tanduay and Honda, which turned back Great Taste, 120-110, in last night’s first game.
Jeff Randell hit a new season high 44 points while Paul Marigney banged in 27 points to anchor the Wildcats’ victory.
“We caught Toyota at a time when it’s not yet in top shape,” said Dalupan. He added, however, that his boys played very hard.
“It was our best game,” Dalupan said. “We many never play that well again.”
“Fouls killed us,” said Toyota coach Dante Silverio, although he added that “Crispa played a beautiful game.”
He also said that his imports were outclassed by the fiery duo of Truitt and Mills.
