Danilo Florencio missed a jumpshot from the right wing with two seconds left last night and Toyota and Crispa fought to a 110-all stand-off in a surprisingly fierce exhibition game at the Araneta Coliseum.

Florencio, set up for what was intended to be the winning play following a Toyota timeout after Fortunato Co, Jr. had tied the score, took a hurried shot and the crowd of some 18,000 reacted with contrasting cheers and jeers.

That miss denied Florencio a touch of drama to his comeback, although he appeared as dependable as ever despite the obvious weight he has put on as a result of his long lay-off.

Philip Cezar, blocked an undergoal stab by Arnulfo Tuadles and then rifled a long pass to Co for that tying basket, 16 seconds remaining.

The Tamaraws looked like all set to snatch the win when Ramon Fernandez connected on a jumper, 110-108, 46 seconds remaining and then intercepted a pass by Cezar to Co with 30 seconds left.

But then Cezar redeemed himself in the next play with that crucial block off Tuadles.

U-Tex, the second conference champion in 1978, outplayed last year’s titlist Royal Tru-Orange, 110-89, in a dull preliminary.

New recruit Oscar Rocha fired a game-high 29 points and while Royal fielded in two fresh recruits from the amateurs — Salvador Ramas and Melchor Ravanes — both members of the Philippine Youth team which played in the world championships in Brazil last year.

It was supposed to be an exhibition game, but the Tamaraws and the Redmanizers played as if a title was at stake.

Rugged play which characterized their previous matches in their fabled rivalry, surfaced anew, as the players from both teams seemed undeterred by the presence of his Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin.
