IT seems almost unbelievable that a man like Danny Floro would disband his fabled Crispa basketball team. We say so because basketball is practically Danny’s life and to take it away from him is like stopping the flow of oxygen into his body. Meaning, it’s like committing suicide.

But, like in the pop song, all things must pass. Danny has perhaps a thousand and one reason to justify his pullout, rationalize his exit, explain his withdrawal but none of which will ever satisfy the thousands of Crispa fans who have stuck with the team from crisis to triumph.

Danny’s decision, no doubt, is unsettling to other PBA team owners. For unlike Toyota which disbanded because of an untenable financial condition, Crispa still has got what it takes to put up a combative team. It will cost the team more, yes, but the owners can do it by turning out perhaps more of those finely-woven t-shirts.

Nothing probably hurt the Floros more than to arrive at the decision disbanding the team. After all, basketball had been good to them although in retrospect, the Floros too, can say they have been good to the sport, and nobody would quarrel with this contention.

In his usual taciturn self, Danny refuses to tell exactly why the team had to go. He said economics was not the main consideration but he added that losing 21 points in a championship game was just too much for his family to bear.

There’s no question, however, that Danny is tired of his team. (incomplete, please refer to the above picture)
