Defending champion Crispa, displaying devastating form, crushed Toyota last night, 143-114, to virtually capture the first finals berth in the PBA All-Filipino conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

It was the 16th straight win for the Redmanizers and it came the easy way as they practically toyed with the outclassed Tamaraws in a manner that stunned some 12,000 fans.

The Redmanizers are now only four games short of a 20-game sweep.

The Redmanizers raced ahead by 22 points, 43-21, in the first quarter and went on to erect leads of 35 points twice, the last at 91-56, as the Tams looked like lost kids.

It was the Tamaraws’ worst loss in their running series with the Redmanizers, who are now ahead 47-43 in wins.

“We played well while they played badly. We kept up the pressure because I told the boys that we could not afford to relax against a team such as Toyota,” said coach Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan.

“They have terrific offense. We found no way to stop them and the boys were off tonight,” lamented Toyota mentor Fortunato Acuna.

Freddie Hubalde played his best game as a pro and came through with a game-high 45 points, 17 of them in the first quarter while Bernard Fabiosa set a record of seven steals while banging 14 points.

Fortunato Co, Jr. had 32 points and Philip Cezar 28 and so torrid was Crispa’s scoring that top forward Alberto Guidaben went scoreless without the Redmanizers feeling it. Hubalde, Co and Cezar combined for 105 points, only nine points less than Toyota’s team total.

Robert Jaworski still played with a slight limp while Nicanor Bulaong continued to miss action with a foot injury, giving Toyota added handicaps.

Tanduay, leading from start to finish, downed Gilbey’s Gin, 117-105.
