Defending champion Crispa pulled away in the fourth quarter last night to bring down arch rival Toyota, 115-101, in the opener of their best-of-five semifinal series in the PBA Reinforced All-Filipino Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

Earlier, San Miguel posted an equally convincing 119-111 win over U/Tex in the other semifinal series.

Robert Jaworski injured his left ankle with one minute left in the third quarter and the Super Corollas, who played a fever-stricken Ramon Fernandez, saw the Redmanizers, starring Glenn Hagan, break away in their attempt.

The Redmanizers had threatened to rip the game open in the first and three quarters but each time, the Super Corollas managed to hold them down.

Norman Black, the 6’5’’ American import of San Miguel routed all the guards assigned to him to score 46 points and pulled down 28 rebounds to power the Brewers to victory.

Tommy Manotoc’s boys practically led all the way after taking the first quarter, 29-25, as Renato Lobo, with his leech-like guarding, limited Wrangler ace William Adornado to a few field goal attempts.

Adornado, who finished with 24 points, was able to score only 15 points off Lobo.

Julius Wayne led the Wranglers with 31 points.

The Redmanizers, after taking the first quarter by 15, 38-23, went on to post an 18-point lead, 42-24, but a maze of offensive fouls by Crispa allowed the Super Corollas to put in a 25-6 blast that enabled them to grab the lead, 49-48, for the first time.
