Toyota, inspired no end by the return of Ramon Fernandez, outgunned defending champion Crispa, 122-114, and U/Tex battled from 18 points down to beat San Miguel Beer in a protested game last night, 97-95, to square the two PBA Reinforced All-Filipino Conference semifinal series at one game apiece.
Game 3 of each series will be played tomorrow.
Fernandez, back after a bout with fever, combined with import Donnie Koonce in leading the Super Corollas’ offense while Abe King manned the boards, pulling down 18 rebounds. Koonce scored a game-high 41 points while Fernandez tallied 23.
Robert Jaworski, who injured his left foot in the series opener last Tuesday, did not play and watched the game from the Toyota bench.
The Wranglers bucked the banishment of ace shooter William Adornado with still six minutes left to beat the Brewers.
Adornado was thrown out with Tommy Manotoc’s charges up by nine points, 89-80.
Matthew Gaston’s drive with 40 ticks left shattered a 95-all tie and proved to be the winning goal for Glenn McDonald’s boys who trailed three-fourths of the way.
The Brewers placed the game under protest after Julius Wayne, who had earlier blocked a shot by Black, apparently committed a backing violation following a U-Tex timeout with 14 ticks left.
